The energy performance certificate shows how energy efficient a home is on a scale of A-G. The most efficient homes, which should have the lowest fuel bills, are in band A.

The certificate also shows the environmental impact the home has, again on a scale of A-G. In addition it shows the approximate current energy use, carbon dioxide emissions and fuel costs per annum, as well as the potential values if further energy saving measures were introduced.The certificate also gives recommendations on measures that could be introduced to improve the energy rating.

The energy efficiency rating is a measure of the overall efficiency of a home. The higher the rating the more energy efficient the home is and the lower the fuel bills will be.

The environmental impact rating is a measure of a home's impact on the environment in terms of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. The higher the rating the less impact it has on the environment.
